Alexandra and Joel’s bright Spring wedding

Real Life Wedding - 14.09.16

While all proposals are romantic, the moment Joel proposed to Alexandra was something of a fairy tale. During a weekend in London, and following a performance of Sleeping Beauty at Sadler’s Wells, Joel got down on one knee and presented Alexandra with a beautiful ring. When the moment came to walk down the aisle, Alexandra chose a beautiful gown from Lola Bridal in Northampton, which she accessorised with ‘Mimi’ shoes by Rachel Simpson.

“I knew my dress was the one straight away” she says, “and when I tried on the shoes, they were a perfect heel height and colour.”

Sticking to tradition with her ‘something old’, Alexandra completed the look with her mother’s wedding veil.

As for the groom, Joel and his best man and ushers wore three-piece navy suits with white shirts, navy ties and brown brogues.

“The minute I saw Joel walk down the aisle, I felt like the luckiest girl in the world!” smiles Alexandra.

Alexandra’s bridesmaids were her two closest friends from school, while the couple’s two nieces were flower girls. The flower girls looked beautiful in cream satin dresses from Debenhams with satin ballet pumps, while the adult bridesmaids were radiant in long, cobalt coloured dresses from Coast.

“It was so important to me that the girls liked their dresses and felt comfortable.” says Alexandra. “The Coast dress was one of the first they tried and an instant success!”

With her bridesmaids wearing a bold colour, Alexandra wanted to accessorise with bright, wild flowers for her spring wedding.

“We didn’t go to great lengths to decorate Mythe Barn because we felt that the beams, beautiful lights and dried flower arrangements they had didn’t need any additions” says Alexandra. “We were conscious of not going too overboard.”

Small touches throughout the day gave the wedding a personal touch, from carefully chosen music to the cake decoration made by Joel’s mum. Table centres were a collection of jars decorated with garden twine and lace, and the creative couple also made their own wedding invitations.

The 3rd of May was a glorious sunny day, so guests were served Champagne and canapés in the courtyard, while Alexandra’s sister-in-law and her sister played the guitar and sang. Guests were invited to play bar skittles – a set made by Alexandra’s great-grandad and used in the East London pub he owned in the 1930’s! For the wedding breakfast, the expert on-site catering team served a three-course delight finishing with glazed lemon tart and raspberry coulis.

“Our speeches took place before the wedding breakfast so that my dad, Joel and the best man could relax and enjoy the food” says Alexandra. “We knew the food was going to be fabulous from the moment we tasted the chocolate brownies on our first visit to Mythe Barn!”

And so, from a romantic proposal to that romantic first dance… Alexandra and Joel danced to ‘La Vie en Rose’ by Louis Armstrong.

“We picked it because we love the movie WallE where it’s featured” smiles Alexandra. “It’s a beautiful and romantic song. The perfect finale to a magical day.”
