Our Guide to Planning a Summer Wedding

When we think of summer, we imagine those beautiful summer weddings with elegant colour schemes, manicured lawns, romantic barn wedding venues and evening barbecues. If summer is your season, we hope you’ll enjoy our five top tips on planning the perfect summer celebration.

1. Choose a Venue with Great Outdoor Spaces

If you’ve set a summer date and you’re hoping to make the most of the sunshine, it makes sense to look at venues that have a lot to offer both inside and out. You might, for example, like the idea of enjoying welcome drinks in a pretty courtyard or playing garden games on a lawn.

2. Consider Your Ceremony

On a beautiful day, you might consider getting married outside. Be sure to ask a potential venue whether they have an outdoor area licensed for civil ceremonies. At Mythe Barn, we hope you might say your vows under our idyllic oak Gazebo, seating up to 150 guests on the lawn. It’s a wonderful way to soak up the surrounding countryside and enjoy all that Mythe Barn has to offer.

3. Plan Outdoor Activities

If your venue has it… use it! Make the most of every outdoor space to celebrate your big day. From marrying outside to enjoying welcome drinks and canapés outside and, of course, delighting guests with wood-fired pizza and a delicious barbecue from the Mythe Barn Outdoor Kitchen, it’s all yours! You might even set up a few garden games on the lawn or a treasure hunt for your younger guests.

4. Embrace the Season

When it comes to flowers and food, this generous season has so much to offer. Speak to your florist about wonderful blooms and to Galloping Gourmet about serving the perfect summer menu. Of course your menu isn’t just about the wedding breakfast… why not create some fabulous summer cocktails too?

5. Be Prepared

The unreliable British weather means it’s always wise to be prepared for every eventuality. Mythe Barn is exclusively yours so, if the weather is inclement, you can simply move inside, marrying in the romantic Oak Barn.

5. Be Prepared

However, you don’t want just a few spots of rain to send you running for cover. With that in mind, have some pretty umbrellas to hand. And, whatever the weather, you can still enjoy the gardens at Mythe Barn, opening all the doors from The Grain Store to bring the outdoors in.
It’s also a good idea to prepare for an exceptionally warm day, providing fans, parasols and non-alcoholic drinks for guests and ensuring there are plenty of shady areas outside.
