Janet and Gary’s Summer love at Mythe Barn

Real Life Wedding - 06.06.18

Janet and Gary married here at Mythe Barn in July 2016. A simply stunning summer wedding, they embraced nature and created a relaxed, fun, party atmosphere along the way.

The Perfect Venue

As a couple who love to cook and entertain, throwing a fabulous party was a key requirement for Janet and Gary. They loved the fact that everything could take place under one roof at Mythe Barn, from their civil ceremony to the food, entertainment and accommodation. “The expert on-site catering team delivered top quality food, and Mythe Barn provided the very best organisation and co-ordination” says Janet.

Theme of the Day

When it came to wedding style, with their love of entertaining, Janet and Gary choose a theme of herbs and nature, therefore introducing lovely shades of greenery and wood. The creative pair made all the décor themselves, from handmade name tags and gift bag favours.

Each table was named after a herb, with that herb in a zinc planter on the centre of the table. “Our table planner was then a wooden planter containing our chosen herbs” explains Janet.

The natural theme continued throughout the day, with hand tied lavender in the ceremony room, and hand-made bunting adorning the courtyard.

All About the Dress

Janet found her dream dress at Noble and Wright. Designed by Ruth Milliam, she loved it as soon as she tried it on. “I felt very feminine and glamorous” she smiles. To complement her gown, Janet wore gorgeous silver sandals by Miu Miu, and elegant diamond jewellery.

Gary wore a stylish navy suit complete with pale grey tie and tan shoes, co-ordinating perfectly with the bridesmaids who also wore navy. Two flower girls certainly looked the part with their high top trainers complete with hand embellished diamante detail!

As for the Florals…

In keeping with the colour scheme, Janet’s bouquet consisted of eucalyptus, white lilies and foliage. The hand-tied style created that ‘just picked’, natural look. Buttonholes are an essential accessory, and Gary and his ushers wore buttonholes of lavender and thyme to tie in with the herbal theme. As for the venue, herbs took centre stage, creating a beautiful scene and scent.

The Wedding Breakfast

Following their civil ceremony, guests were treated to gin and elderflower cocktails, chilled beers and non-alcoholic cocktails, alongside a selection of delicious canapés. As they moved in to The Grain Store, it was time to dine. “We designed our menu based on the likes and dislikes of our guests” explains Janet. “All dietary requirements were catered for, from vegetarian options to gluten-free food.” And to finish… something sweet! “We put together a sweet table” says Janet “with everyone’s favourite sweets and gift bags to take them home!”

Let Them Eat Cake!

The delicious naked cake was bang on trend and a great choice for a wedding with a natural theme. Chocolate cake and victoria sponge was adorned with strawberries, raspberries and blue berries. What a treat for a wedding in the height of summer.

Evening Celebrations

As day turned to evening, Janet and Gary wanted to make sure their guests had a great time. “We had an amazing entertainment trio called Adam Thomas and The Souljers” says Janet. “They really made the evening – our friends are still talking about them months later.” To delight the tastebuds, an evening barbeque was served alongside a popcorn machine. “It’s crazy how popular the popcorn machine was with absolutely everyone!” laughs Janet.

Janet’s Top Tip

“Plan as much as you can, but enjoy every moment of the planning and organising. The team at Mythe Barn were incredible.”
