Laura and Matthew’s woodland-themed wedding was filled with personal and thoughtful touches.
Laura and Matt were looking for a barn for their March wedding, wanting exclusive use, a countryside setting and a blank canvas upon which to add their own style.
“We thought we had found our venue and just went to see Mythe Barn as a comparison,” explains Laura. “When we drove up the beautiful driveway, it was so quiet and tranquil. We both looked at each other and could tell without walking in that we were already smitten!”
The happy couple knew that Mythe Barn was the place they wanted to say their vows.
“We loved how the barn had a contemporary but rustic twist with so much character,” smiles Laura. “Unlike other wedding barns, it was light and airy. No matter what the weather, it would be beautiful.”
Embracing the look and feel of the barn, Laura and Matt were drawn to a rustic, natural, woodland décor and shades of lilac and lavender. As a graphic designer, Matt designed all the wedding stationery, including a personalised wedding logo that incorporated vintage typography to satisfy Laura’s love of the twenties.
“The design was in keeping with the rustic look with everything on kraft card and little lovebirds appearing throughout”
As guests arrived at Mythe Barn, hessian ribbon bows on the topiary trees and white lanterns guided them to the front entrance.
In the Oak Barn, beautiful floral displays sat on wooden crates either side of the ceremony table, with a large candle and decorative birds and hearts. Hurricane lanterns filled with pillar candles lined the aisle to create a wonderfully romantic ambience. Finally, lavender hearts hung from the walls, completing the rustic vibe.
Hessian table runners, glass tea-light holders and a wooden guest book were just a few of the other thoughtful decorative touches around the venue.
Laura wore a vintage style A-line gown by Stella York with a stunning train and lace back detail.
“It was the perfect dress for me,” she smiles. “As soon as I tried it on, nothing else compared and I realised that it was actually the dress I had saved on my Pinterest wall!”
The beautiful bride accessorised with a diamante bracelet and earrings and vintage style shoes from Monsoon. Having decided against a veil, her mother persuaded her to try one on… and she loved it!
“The moment I tried the veil on with the dress, it felt complete”
Laura’s four bridesmaids wore long, lilac chiffon dresses with lace sleeves.
“I found them on Ebay and couldn’t believe the quality of them,” says Laura. “The girls looked beautiful.”
The look was completed with a jewellery set, lilac clutch bag and nude shoes.
Matt’s mother is a talented florist so offered to do all the flowers and help decorate the venue.
“There was no one more perfect for the job,” explains Laura. “She knew exactly what we wanted and the designs were mesmerizing.”
The bridal bouquet featured calla lilies, lisianthus, white anemones, ranunculus, ‘Avalanche’ roses, eucalyptus and dry lavender. Tied with hessian ribbon, a diamante flower button was sewn in as Laura’s ‘something old’ and ‘something borrowed’ from her grandmother.
The bridesmaids carried similar posies while calla lilies were used for the buttonholes.
The same flowers continued into Mythe Barn with the beautiful displays beside the ceremony table and rustic silver pots holding arrangements throughout the venue.
Table centerpieces were arranged in wooden flower boxes and looked stunning in The Grain Store.
Following their ceremony, a selection of delicious canapés and drinks were served in The Cart Barn. Moving in to dine in The Grain Store, the expert on-site catering team menu commenced with smoked bacon Scotch egg, followed by grilled supreme of free-range chicken. To finish, a trio of desserts with triple chocolate brownie, deconstructed fruit crumble and lemon posset was a treat for the tastebuds!
“The starter was the stand-out dish for us,” says Laura. “It was delicious and it’s easy to see why it’s one of Mythe Barn’s signature dishes. Some of our guests are still talking about it!”
Laura and Matt chose to have George Simpson sing and play acoustic guitar as guests arrived, during the ceremony, the drinks reception and the wedding breakfast.
“It really added that special touch to a truly beautiful wedding day”
For their first dance, the newlyweds chose ‘Still Falling For You’ by Ellie Goulding. A DJ filled the dancefloor for the rest of the evening, finishing with a grand finale when he played Laura and Matt’s favourite alternative and rock music back-to-back for the last 30 minutes of the night.
“It was a great end to the evening, where all the remaining guests got up on the dancefloor and rocket out!”
Much to the delight of their guests, the expert on-site catering team served up a mouth-watering dish in the evening.
The happy couple also chose to have a popcorn machine and make their own DIY sweetie table with chocolate and retro sweets. A beer drum package featured Peroni and Budwar, while Laura chose an array of cocktails including Mojito and Amaretto Slammers.
“Becci at Mythe Barn was such a star and ensured everything ran smoothly and the on-site catering team were so lovely – nothing was too much trouble.”
