Wedding photographs are a treasured possession of every happily married couple, enabling you to look back at every moment of your special day.
These days, photography is more exciting than ever with spectacular, informal shots and wonderful detailed images highlighting everything from the flowers to the first dance. Gone are the albums of formal, posed images. Here are just a few of our favourite wedding photo ideas to inspire and delight….
The ‘Getting Ready’ shots
The best wedding photographs are those that capture the emotion and style of your entire day, from start to finish. So, let’s start at the beginning with lovely images of you getting ready for your big day. It’s time to create memories of those magical few hours with your bridesmaids, and the moment you first put on your beautiful gown. As well as being elegant, these images can also be fun!
It’s also a perfect opportunity to take photos of your hair looking immaculate…
Once you’re ready, be sure to ask your photographer to take a lovely photograph of the back of your dress, as well as the front, and of details including your wedding shoes.
A few shots of the groom and his ushers preparing for the wedding are a must, along with some close-up details of his accessories from his shoes, to his watch and wedding ring.
While photographs of you, your family and friends are key, it’s also important to capture the details of your day. You want to look back and remember the style of your wedding – your bouquet, cake, table decorations and stationery. You might even like to have lovely images of your food, cocktails, lighting and favours. It’s time to get creative with some photographs that really set the scene of your day.
It’s a classic… but sometimes classics are the best. We love this photograph of a bride walking down the aisle with her father. It’s a moment you’ll always remember.
The ‘I do’ moment
Wedding vows are obviously significant, but there’s no reason there can’t be a few light-hearted moments. These wonderful photographs capture the emotions between a couple.
Ah, the kiss! We just love it… whether it’s a kiss at the alter or a smooch on the dancefloor – it’s the image that sums up the day!
The Bridesmaids… and the Boys
It’s lovely to have some photographs of those beautiful ladies and handsome chaps, and a good idea to think of a few alternatives to the more traditional, posed photographs. Gather your girls for some lovely images and plenty of bouquet tossing! These are a few of our favorites…
As for the groom, his best man and ushers – capture them being themselves, enjoying some banter or a pre-ceremony pint!
Just the Two of You
As the happy couple, you’ll be snapped all day long. Some of the best photos are taken when you’re able to escape for a romantic stroll with just your photographer to keep you company. We love these thoughtful images, highlighting the couple and their environment:
Friends and Family
It’s great to get large group shots of friends and family but, all too often, they are rather unimaginative and purely functional. Let’s take a look at some photos with a difference.
While it’s a good idea to video your speeches, they don’t make the most exciting photographs. What we do love to see is the reaction to a great speech… so ask your photographer to point the camera around the room, capturing the smiles and perhaps even the occasional tear!
The First Dance Pics
This is a key photo moment, and the images we love the best are wonderfully emotive – we almost feel like we’re in the room!
And Finally… The Departure
Alas, all good things must come to an end, and every bride and groom must make their exit. If you’re heading off on the night of your wedding, do it in style under an arch of sparklers or confetti… and make it a fabulous photo moment.
