When we think of summer weddings, we imagine warm sunshine, elegant colour schemes, manicured lawns, romantic barn wedding venues and evening barbecues. If summer is your season, we hope you’ll enjoy our tips on planning the perfect summer celebration.

1. Choose a venue with beautiful outside spaces

If you’ve set a summer date and are hoping to make the most of the sunshine, it makes sense to look at venues that have a lot to offer both inside and out.

Some of the most spectacular summer wedding ceremonies are outdoors with gorgeous rural surroundings and perhaps a pergola or gazebo to frame you both as you say your nuptials. Be sure to ask a potential venue whether they have an outdoor area licensed for civil ceremonies. At Mythe Barn, we hope you might say your vows under our idyllic oak Gazebo, seating up to 150 guests on the lawn. It’s a wonderful way to soak up the surrounding countryside and enjoy all that Mythe Barn has to offer.

Venues with beautiful outside spaces also enable you to have welcome drinks in pretty courtyards and to include garden games on the lawn, as well as giving guests the option to mingle outside until nightfall on balmy summer evenings.

2. Embrace seasonal delights

Summer is a generous and abundant season which means it is easy to include seasonal flowers in your wedding day design. Seasonal blooms are not only spectacular in summer but they’re kinder to the environment and can be sourced locally for minimal carbon footprint.

We love refreshing botanical cocktails for summer weddings muddled with fresh herbs and buckets of ice.

3. Be prepared

The unreliable British weather means it’s always wise to be prepared for every eventuality. Mythe Barn is exclusively yours so, if the weather isn’t playing ball, you can simply move inside, marrying in the romantic Oak Barn.

However, you don’t want just a few spots of rain to send you running for cover. With that in mind, have some pretty umbrellas to hand. And, whatever the weather, you can still enjoy the gardens at Mythe Barn, as we open all the doors from The Grain Store in warm weather to bring the outdoors in. It’s also a good idea to prepare for an exceptionally warm day, providing fans, parasols and non-alcoholic drinks for guests and ensuring there are plenty of shady areas outside.

Hazel & Chris enjoyed a stylish June wedding celebration at Mythe Barn.

Deciding on a June wedding date, the happy couple set a colour scheme of blues, purples and silver. “The Oak Barn was decorated with fairy lights and blue and purple wicker lights” smiles Hazel.

“With 70 guests, we wanted a venue that wasn’t too large and that was enough of a blank canvas for us to be able to add our own touches,” explains Hazel. “Mythe Barn offered the casual, relaxed atmosphere we wanted and it had an outside gazebo which was great – we were thinking of getting married outside.”

Libby and Josh chose a timeless colour scheme of white, silver and grey for their summer wedding at Mythe Barn.

With fabulous flowers, exceptional food, live music and sunshine, it was a truly glorious celebration. After visiting a number of wedding venues, Libby and Josh knew when they arrived at Mythe Barn that it was the perfect setting for their August wedding.

“It was light and modern but full of beautiful rustic features,” smiles Libby. “The setting was stunning, and the outdoor area was just what we wanted – we’d always imagined everyone eating and drinking outside in a courtyard. It ticked every box.”

Hayley & Chris enjoyed a relaxed, rustic summer wedding at Mythe Barn.

Hayley and Chris were looking for their dream wedding venue – a beautiful wedding barn in Leicestershire. They fell in love with Mythe Barn and set their wedding date for the end of July 2017. The happy couple chose a delicate, pastel colour scheme.

“Our styling was relaxed, in keeping with the barn venue” explains Hayley. “We chose pastel colours and lots of flowers.”

Alice and Joel chose delicate shades of coral for their summer wedding at Mythe Barn.

The happy couple chose shades of nude and coral for their colour scheme, just the thing for a pretty summer wedding. As they love to travel, they also introduced a travel wedding theme to their day.

When it came to flowers, stunning arrangements incorporated peonies, sweet peas, roses and gypsophila in glorious shades of coral. Ivory rose petals were scattered down the aisle and Alice’s mother decorated the centrepiece vases with string to add rustic style.

“We loved how light and airy it was, with beautiful grounds and space for our guests to enjoy welcome drinks in the Cart Barn and the Courtyard. It’s also great that there is a Preparation Room for both the bride and the groom. We were surprised by the outdoor kitchen, which was an even bigger bonus!” smiles Alice.

Setting their sights on a summer celebration, Jodie and James planned their special day around beautiful food and exceptional service.

As they pulled onto the driveway to Mythe Barn, they fell in love with the setting, the surrounding countryside and the characterful barn.

“I remember a pheasant appearing to race at the side of our car. It really made me smile!” says Jodie.

A pastel colour scheme set this idyllic scene, with hues of blush pinks and purples looking stunning against the rustic wood of Mythe Barn.

As well as its appearance, the happy couple loved the flow of the venue, enabling guests to wander between each space with the stunning countryside views around them.

“It just has that wow factor without being over the top. The guest rooms are beautifully decorated and it’s difficult to describe the wedding preparation space and honeymoon suite to give it the justice it deserves!”
