Top Honeymoon Destinations

Inspiration – 31.08.16

Planning the honeymoon is one of the most exciting elements of organising your wedding. After all, who doesn’t enjoy thinking about holidays? Traditionally, this is a task for the groom, but nowadays most couples enjoy planning their dream honeymoon together.

Let’s take a look at some of the top honeymoon destinations.

Time to Chill

If you like the idea of relaxing on a beach, the Maldives has it all and remains the top honeymoon destination for luxury travel operator Kuoni. From the whitest sand to the clearest turquoise sea, the atolls of the Maldives are picture postcard perfect and oh-so-romantic. Take your pick from some amazing hotels, from the Four Seasons Resort Kuda Huraa to Velassaru.

Of course, the Caribbean is another dreamy beach choice, with St Lucia being a favorite. Anse Chastanet is a quirky, boutique hideaway, perfect for couples. We also love the smaller island of Nevis and the idyllic ‘get away from it all’ Montpelier Plantation & Beach.

Closer to Home

If you’re watching the budget or have a limited amount of time, consider having a ‘mini moon’ – a few days away where you don’t travel too far.

If you’re getting married in the summer, and the weather is on your side, Italy remains one of the most romantic honeymoon destinations. City lovers should head to Rome or the delights of Venice while the Amalfi Coast is a haven of luxury for those looking to be beside the sea. Be inspired by the Hotel Santa Caterina which you may never want to leave! Alternatively, combine city and beach in Spain with a honeymoon in Barcelona and the trendy Hotel Arts.

Of course, staying in the UK is always an option, with many beautiful places to explore. A few nights in London could be just the ticket and, while there is a multitude of luxurious hotels to choose from, Ten Manchester Street is a cosy boutique hideaway, reasonably priced and in fashionable Marylebone. Pure romantics might choose to head to the Lake District, spending time enjoying the countryside. Look no further than Hipping Hall in Kirkby Lonsdale, or drive south to Cornwall and the contemporary Scarlet with its amazing spa.

Further Afield

If you want to travel a little further, or you’re looking for some sunshine after a winter wedding, how about New Zealand? Consider a stay at Otahuna Lodge, New Zealand’s largest private historic residence.

Heading in the other direction altogether, the USA remains a top honeymoon destination. Enjoy the bright lights of New York City or the glamour of California before venturing south for a relaxing week in the Caribbean.

The Great Explorers

Feeling adventurous? Why not journey to the rainforest. Audley Travel recommend the Permai Rainforest Resort in Sarawak, Borneo where you can stay in a tree house, up in the forest canopy overlooking the sea. Go jungle walking, sea kayaking and dolphin watching and experience nature at its finest. This isn’t a honeymoon for those in search of luxury, but it would be memorable for all the right reasons – the trip of a lifetime

South America is another popular choice, offering a wealth of experiences from vibrant cities to the magnificent natural scenery. Considering venturing into the land of the lost city of the Incas with a visit to Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.

No honeymoon piece would be complete without mention of a safari, and South Africa is a top honeymoon destination choice. Audley Travel recommends starting with a visit to Cape Town, perhaps enjoying a few days in the Winelands of Stellenbosch or Franschhoek before finishing your trip with a short safari.  Take a look at the Mateya Safari Lodge in Madikwe Game Reserve for inspiration.
